Abstract

813,442. Brake cooling systems. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Jan. 24, 1956 [Feb. 2, 1955], No. 3024/55. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] A cooling system for the liquid used to remove heat from the brakes 1 of a vehicle or other power-operated mechanism of the kind described in Specification 711,059 comprises, as shown in Fig. 1, a radiator or heat exchanger 5 formed between a skin member and the exterior shell of the body structure of the vehicle. The system preferably includes a header tank 9 into which the liquid may be drained and a circulating pump may also be provided. Various forms of surface radiator may be used, that shown in Fig. 3 comprising a sheet of metal or synthetic material 14 secured to the vehicle body panel 16 by dimples 15 between which the liquid circulates. In Fig. 4 the skin member 24 is of corrugated sheet material, and in Fig. 6 a resilient non- metallic material 44 is bonded to the body structure at points 47 and arranged to flex away from the surface when the cooling liquid is circulated. The heat exchanger material may include energizable electric conductors for preventing freezing when not in use. Application of the invention to industrial machinery is referred to.
