Abstract

812,547. R.F. couplings. BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION. Aug. 26, 1955 [Aug. 27, 1954], No. 25010/54. Class 40 (7). In a radio transmitter installation in which power is fed to an aerial system remote from the transmitter the radiation into the service area of delayed signals due to mis-match at the transmitter output and aerial input is substantially prevented. To achieve this object the transmitter drive unit 12 is arranged to feed a phaseadjusting circuit 13 having two outputs feeding output stages 14 and 15 respectively in quadrature. These stages are constructed to have substantially identical impedances and wavereflecting properties and their outputs are of equal power and in phase quadrature. Two transmission lines 20 and 20<SP>1</SP> couple them respectively to two separate aerial sections 21 and 211 designed to be fed by in-phase input signals. The lines 20 and 20<SP>1</SP> differ in length so as to provide the necessary in-phase inputs; the difference being #/4 in the embodiment shown. Waves reflected at the aerial section inputs and again at the transmitter outputs return to the aerial sections in antiphase and when radiated will not be received at or near ground level except at short range.
