Abstract

Phosphoric acid esters of the formula <FORM:0812045/IV (b)/1> where R is an alkyl or aryl radical, R1 and R2 are C1-4 alkyl radicals and X is oxygen or sulphur are prepared by reacting a sulphinic acid halide, especially a chloride, with a di- or trialkyl phosphite or monothiophosphite. The compounds in which X is sulphur are also claimed per se. Specified R groups include C1-4 alkyl, phenyl, tolyl, chlorophenyl, nitrophenyl, methoxyphenyl and chloronitrophenyl groups. Inert organic solvents such as benzene, toluene, low molecular weight, liquid hydrocarbons (e.g. petroleum ether) or chlorinated hydrocarbons (e.g. methylene chloride, ethylene chloride or chloroform) are preferably used and temperatures of 0-100 DEG C., preferably 10-30 DEG C. The products are insecticides. Examples illustrate the preparation of compounds in which: R, R1 and R2 are ethyl and X is sulphur; R is p-chlorophenyl, X is oxygen and R1 and R2 are methyl, ethyl or iso-propyl; and R is p-chlorophenyl, R1 and R2 are ethyl and X is sulphur.ALSO:Insecticidal compositions comprise sulphinylthiophosphoric esters of formula: <FORM:0812045/VI/1> wherein R is an alkyl or aryl radical and R1 and R2 are C1-4 alkyl, phenyl, tolyl, chlorophenyl, nitrophenyl, methoxyphenyl and chloronitrophenyl groups. They may be used with solid or liquid carriers such as talc, chalk, bentonite, water, alcohols, liquid hydrocarbons or ketones. Emulsifiers may be added and the compounds applied as dusts, sprays, aerosols or in other manner.
