A parking meter comprises means released by coin-freed mechanism for recording on a ticket or token, by ink markings, piercing, punching or similar methods, an indication of the time of issue of the ticket or the time of expiry of the permitted parking period, the ticket preferably having adhesive on its face so that it can be stuck to the inside of the windscreen of a car. A strip of stiff paper or cardboard on a spool 2 is guided by rollers 6 and 7 to a masked delivery opening '9 and is fed by a pair of wheels 8 having pins engaging in apertures along the edge of the strip. A clock 18 is slidable on guides 19 above the run of the strip between the rollers 6, 7 and can be raised and lowered by an arm 23 which is pivoted at 24, and is normally prevented from moving by a pivoted rod 33 locked by the coin mechanism 34. After coinage has been inserted, the knob 27 on the arm 23 can be raised so that the clock is lowered and an element 22 driven by the clock makes an impression of an hour hand and minute hand on a clock face already printed on the strip. The knob 27 is then moved down to raise the clock again and, through a pivoted link 30, to cause a bowl 31 to rotate the ratchet wheel 32 and wheels 8 sufficiently to bring the impressed part of the strip through the opening 9. The strip may be perforated to facilitate tearing off the tickets or, instead of issuing tickets from the continuous strip, separate tickets may be stored in the meter. The tickets may be issued in duplicate and any wording, such as parking regulations, may be applied before the strips or separate tickets are placed in the meter or may be impressed at the same time as the time impression. A clock 36 with its face visible at the front of the casing 1 may be provided.
