Abstract
A binding agent in the form of an oil-in-water emulsion for textile material dyeing and printing pastes containing inorganic or organic pigment dyestuffs comprises a triglyceride of a fatty acid containing at least two conjugated double bonds in the molecule and derived from animal or vegetable fats or oils, emulsified in an aqueous emulsion or solution of one or more polymerized or copolymerized polymerizable compounds containing at least one CH2=C < group and at most 11 carbon atoms in the molecule. The triglyceride may be dehydrated castor oil, China wood oil, oiticica oil or a mixture thereof, and may be added before, during or after the polymerization of the polymerizable compounds. The polymeric material may be a polymer or copolymer of vinyl chloride or acetate, methyl, ethyl or butyl acrylate or methacrylate, acrylamide, methacrylamide, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, styrene, methyl styrene or butadiene, or may be polyvinyl alcohol or a wholly or partly saponified polymer or copolymer of a vinyl or acrylic acid ester. The binding agent may contain other ingredients such as a condensation product of oleyl or cetyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, or a plasticizer such as dioctyl phthalate. Pigments which may be added to the binding agent to produce dyeing and printing pastes include phthalocyanine blue and green, lamp-black, titanium dioxide, and copper and aluminium powder. An example describes the preparation of the binding agent by adding a mixture of equal parts by weight of acrylonitrile and China wood oil dropwise to an aqueous solution of acrylamide containing a condensation product of oleyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, potassium persulphate and sodium bisulphite, the temperature being maintained at 65 DEG C.ALSO:A textile material dyeing or printing paste comprises an inorganic or organic pigment dyestuff incorporated in a binding agent which is in the form of an oil-in-water emulsion and which comprises a triglyceride of a fatty acid containing at least two conjugated double bonds in the molecule and derived from animal or vegetable fats or oils, emulsified in an aqueous emulsion or solution of one or more polymerized or copolymerized polymerizable compounds containing at least one CH2 = C< group and at most 11 carbon atoms in the molecule. The pigment may be phthalocyanine blue or green, lamp black, titanium dioxide or copper or aluminium powder.
