A coffee filter comprises a hollow body portion 1 having two grids 2, 3 between which coffee is squeezed and a piston 5, 6 with a peripheral sealing element 7a slidable in the body portion 1 to force water under pressure through the coffee and having an operating-rod 8 slidable in a lid or cover 9 of the hollow body. As shown, the grid 2 forms the base of body 1 and receives coffee which is then covered by the second grid 3, the two grids being pressed together by a screw or bolt 12. The piston comprises plates 5, 6 holding an elastic diaphragm 7 whose periphery forms the sealing element 7a. Cover 9 has a collar 11 in the centre through which a rod 8 passes connected at one end to the piston and with a knob 10 at the other end.
