Abstract

A sheet material for use in forming a laminate comprises synthetic rubber plasticized with a polyester or mixed polyester which is substantially non-volatile and non-extractable by organic liquids. The synthetic rubber may be a polymer of butadiene or of chlorobutadiene, or a copolymer of butadiene and methyl methacrylate or acrylonitrile. The polyester may be formed by the reaction of one or more glycols with one or more aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, and, if desired, with further reactants such as monocarboxylic acids or aromatic dicarboxylic acids, to give a product having an average molecular weight not less than 5000. Polypropylene adipate and the copolyesters described in Specification 773,986 may be used. Fillers, antioxidants, pigments, or accelerators may be added. A specified mix contains butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber, zinc oxide, carbon black, stearic acid, sulphur, acetonediphenylamine condensate, polypropylene adipate (m.w. 6000), and mercaptobenzthiazoledithiocarbamate mixture. A mix for another layer of the laminate contains, instead of the polypropylene adipate, a lauric acid modified polypropylene adipate of m.w. about 800.
