809,831. Reaping machines. V.E.B. MAHDRESCHERWERK WEIMAR. Dec. 12, 1955, No. 35588/55. Class 6(3). A device for automatically controlling the ground-clearance of the cutting mechanism of a reaping machine which is raised and lowered by a hydraulic lift comprises a pair of floating levers c, c<SP>1</SP> terminating in ground-contacting rollers d, d<SP>1</SP> each lever having pairs of contacts e1, e2, e3, e4 which form part of two electrical circuits f, g including solonoids h, i the cores of which are connected to the control-lever l of the hydraulic-lift (not shown) the arrangement being that raising or lowering of either of the two rollers energises one or other of the circuits to actuate the hydraulic-lift mechanism in the appropriate direction. Thus, upward movement of either levers c or c<SP>1</SP> closes one of the pairs of upper contacts e1, e4 and current flows through the solonoid i thereby raising the cutters (not shown) but both rollers have to fall together to energise the solonoid h. The contacts may be adjustable to control the height at which they operate and the levers c, C<SP>1</SP> may be mounted on a frame which is universally jointed to the front of the reaping machine.
