Abstract

A vulcanizable composition comprises a solid butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer of normal molecular weight, a liquid plasticizer consisting of a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer of low molecular weight having a viscosity of between 10,000 and 3,000,000 centiposes at 30 DEG C., a filler or fillers, an anti-adhesive agent, vulcanizing agents and anti-oxidizing agents, the additives being so chosen that they maintain the dielectric properties of electric cable insulating oils with which the composition may come in contact. From 5 to 50 per cent by weight of the liquid polymer is added to the solid polymer. The anti-adhesive agent may be stearic or palmitic acid in an amount of 0.1 to 3 per cent based on the total weight of the composition. Other additives are a non-staining carbon black, such as furnace, channel or thermal black; phenyl beta naphthylamine zinc oxide, tetramethyl thiuram disulphide and sulphur. The composition may be vulcanized for 30 minutes at 143 DEG C.
