809,650. Cooling sterilized cans &c. MITCHELL ENGINEERING Ltd., and WEBSTER & CO. Ltd., R. W. June 15, 1955 [June 15, 1954], No. 17582/54. Class 49. In sterilizing apparatus in which cans &c. containing the materials to be sterilized are carried through the apparatus by a conveyer, the cans are, before leaving the conveyer, successively and simultaneously sprayed with cooling water from banks of pipes on opposite sides arranged horizontally one above another. In a preferred embodiment, the openings 13 in the water pipes 11 are so shaped that cooling water flows round the cans 10, and the conveyer bars 1 act as gutters for collecting the water into a trough 15 or reservoir 20 to be pumped, by pumps 16 and 24 respectively, to the tank 19, from which it flows down in the chamber 9 oppositely to the conveyer.
