Class 97(1) In a wide angle objective (e.g. for photographic enlargers) consisting of two positive meniscus simple components enclosing two negative meniscus doublets, all the surfaces being concave towards a diaphragm located between the meniscus doublets, the radii of the outer surfaces R 3 , R 5 , R 6 and R 8 of these doublets are such that 0.70 < R 5 /R 3 < 0.75, 0.75 < R 6 /R 8 < 0.80 and (R 3 - R 5 ) - R 8 - R 6 # 0.02f and the air space l 3 between the doublets is such that 3.5(R 6 - R 5 ) < l 2 < 4.5 (R 6 - R 5 ). Preferably, the refractive indices of the glasses used are related by the formulae:- md The Abbi numbers of the glasses also preferably correspond to the relations 0.7 # V 2 - V 3 # V 5 - V 4 # 3.0.
