Abstract

808,582. Fire extinguishing; cutting off inflammable fluids in event of fire. AEROGRAPH CO. Ltd. June 27, 1957 [June 27, 1956], No. 19959/56. Class 47 A pressurized gas pipe system is arranged to maintain supply valves in a pressurized inflammable fluid supply system open against a lesser pressure, for example spring pressure, the gas pipe system including pipe lengths of highly inflammable material at fire danger points so that an outbreak of fire destroys part of the gas pipe system, releases the pressure therein and permits the fluid supply valves to close. The invention described relates particularly to paint spray feed arrangements, in one embodiment of which a pump 16 operates a circulating system for paint, the paint supply line 17 being split up into sections by diaphragm valves 10 maintained in the "open" position by pressure in an air main 8. The air main 8 includes celluloid pipes 8a which span the spray booths 1. On outbreak of fire in a spray booth the main 8 quickly loses pressure and the valves 10 thereby close. Simultaneously the pump 16 is stopped by a stop button 19 which is normally maintained in the "on" position by pressure in an air cylinder 18 fed from the air main 8. In addition release of pressure in the air main 8 may cause operation of other safety devices, for example, a dump valve 21 for draining paint from the tank 22 to an underground tank, a CO 2 gas discharge fire extinguishing system operator 23, an operator 24 for dampers in fume ducting and operators 25 and 26 for audible or visible warnings. To prevent inadvertant operation of the valves and other safety devices on temporary failure of the air supply, an air pressure reservoir, fed through a non- return valve, may be provided. The air main is fed through a restiction orifice. In other embodiments, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the paint is fed to the booths from pressurized tanks.
