Class 39(3) [Also in Groups VI and XVII] An electrically heated cooking vessel 1, Fig. 2, has a lid with a vent opening 17 housing an electrically heated catalytic resistance 18. The catalyst eliminates by oxidation the objectionable components of the fumes or gases passing through the opening 17. For circular vessels the lid 2 and body 1 may be formed with alignable air inlet holes 16 the effective areas of which are varied by rotating the lid 2. In Fig. 12 the lid 60 comprises a dished plate 60a having a central raised exhaust vent 60b on which the catalytic filament 61a can be located and held in place by a cylindrical housing 62. The housing 62 has a cut out portion 62c for engaging and holding the head 66a of an electrical socket 66. Below the vent 60b is a removable perforated plate 64 for protecting the filament 61a against spattering. This construction is readily dismantled for cleaning. Fig. 9 illustrates a rectangular construction with a pivoted lid 46, the catalytic resistance being below a protective screen 49b. The base has a vent opening for the entry of air, and a transparent front wall 47 is preferably hinged at its lower edge. The electric heating means is at a level corresponding with the top of the front wall 47 so that food can be cooked below it or between it and the lid. The catalyst. In Fig. 4 the catalyst comprises a continuous wire in the form of two spirals connected at their centre, there being a strip 19 of dielectric material between the spirals. In Fig. 11 the catalyst comprises a frame 50a over which a wire filament 50b is wound. Springs 50c bear against the filament support 50d to maintain the winding in taut condition. The wire is preferably 80 per cent chromium, 20 per cent nickel resistance wire provided with a thin coating of a catalytic form of an inorganic oxide such as alumina, beryllia, magnesia, thoria or mixtures thereof, impregnated with a catalytic metal. Alternatively the wire may be covered with metallic platinum, palladium or other catalytic metal. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 746,806 [Group III].
