Abstract

A composition suitable for spinning fibres contains at least 85 per cent of a halogen-containing vinyl homopolymer or copolymer containing no nitrogen, and not more than 15 per cent of a copolymer of acrylonitrile with butadiene, isoprene, or a monomer having the formula <FORM:0807086/IV (a)/1> where R1 is an alkyl group or a hydrogen atom and R11 an alkyl group, dissolved in a solvent. The halogen-containing polymer may be polyvinyl chloride and the copolymer a copolymer of acrylonitrile with butadiene or isobutylene. The solvent exemplified is a 1:1 by volume mixture of carbon disulphide and acetone. The composition may be spun into fibres and filaments which may be cold-drawn. The fibres may be dyed.
