Abstract

An aqueous solution contains per ml. at least 0.5 mg. of adrenochrome monosemicarbozone solubilized by a 7-lower alkyl theophylline in which the lower alkyl radical contains from 2 to 6, preferably 2-4, carbon atoms and at least one hydroxyl group such as 7-hydroxyethyl, 7- beta - hydroxypropyl, 7-gamma - hydroxypropyl, 7 - dihydroxypropyl, 7 - polyhydroxybutyl, 7 - polyhydroxyamyl, 7 - polyhydroxyhexyl and preferably 7 - beta - gamma dihydroxy-n-propyl theophylline. An example describes the preparation of an aqueous solution for injection comprising 5 mg./ml. of adrenochrome monosemicarbazone solubilized by 70 mg./ml. of 7-beta, gamma-dihydroxy-n-propyl theophylline and buffered and rendered isotonic by the addition of methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate, sodium phosphate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate.
