Abstract

806,621 Locking nuts. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS. Aug. 2, 1956, No. 23893/56. Class 89(1) A resilient sheet-material lock-washer 10, Fig. 1, is split radially and has a U-shaped cross-section, the flanges 14, 16 extending radially-outwards or inwards (see washer 10a, Fig. 5), and the width of the U between the edges of the flanges increasing from a minimum on one side of the split to a maximum on the other. The edge 21 of flange 14 lies in a single plane and edge 23 of flange 16 winds helically. The washer is held assembled to the nut 18 by the flange 14 engaging in a recess 22. The washer 10a is held assembled to a screw 18a by the flange 14a, engaging projections 34 on the screw-shank.
