Abstract
806,282. Abrasive wheels. BISTERFELD, E., [trading as BISTERFELD & STOLTING]. July 25, 1955 [Aug. 12, 1954], No. 21394/55. Class 60. A flexible abrasive wheel includes a plurality of hollow cylindrical thin walled abrasive members 1, 2, 3 arranged concentrically on a common supporting disc 5 and widely separated from one another, each of the abrasive members comprising laminated layers of fabric saturated with resin and sprinkled with abrasive granules. The outer abrasive member 1 may be secured to the outer periphery of the supporting disc 5, the inner members 2, 3 may fit into annular grooves 7, 8 in the disc 5 and have serrations 9 or they may be secured to the face of the disc 5. The members 1, 2, 3 may project on both sides of the disc 5. The disc 5 may be a resin-bond laminate, and the members 1, 2, 3 may be secured thereto by heat and pressure or be cemented or clamped in metal backings. The members 1, 2, 3 may be made by winding fabric on to mandrels or by pressing in cylindrical moulds ; they may be built up from segments. The resin may be synthetic, e.g., phenolformaldehyde condensate. The abrasive granules may be non-metallic or metallic ; steel wool may be present. For 200 mm. diameter body the wall thickness is 2-10 mm.
