806,020. Doors for passenger vehicles. OPEL, A. G., A. May 17, 1957 [June 8, 1956], No. 15726/57. Class 103(2) A motor vehicle door comprises inner and outer metal panels 10, 11, with a window slidable therebetween, a trim pad 17 attached to the inner panel 10 by vertical rows of pins 18 which make press fits with the sharp edges 20 of openings 16 in the inner panel, each row of openings being protected against entry of water, which may pass between window and panels, by a shield in the form of a strip 21 of channel section fitted between the panels and secured at its ends 22, 23 to the inner panel, and drain holes (not shown) in the bottom flange of the panel 10 through which water can escape. The pins 18 are attached to a retainer strip 19 fitted to the pad 17. The base wall of the channel strip 21 has a groove 24 to collect water and conduct it clear of the pins and the sides 25 of the channel (shown clear of the panel 10) may be flanged and secured to the panel 10 by spot welding. The strip 21 may be non-metal and cemented to the panel 10 e.g. a cement based on an epoxy resin. Also -the strip 21 may be made of corrugated material so that the grooves thereof conduct water clear of the openings 16.
