Abstract

805,906. Seats. AMERICAN METAL PRODUCTS CO. Sept. 24, 1956, No. 29175/56. Class 52(2) A vehicle seat mounted for fore and aft adjustment and vertical adjustment has track elements 21, 22 each having an angleshaped base support 23 carrying a pair of inverted channel elements 24 to which are locked balls 26 by a channel element 27 supporting the mechanism and the seat. An angle member 31 which supports the seat and is movable vertically relative to the channel element 27 is pivotally secured to link 45 connected to link 43 welded to a rod 41 journalled in brackets 35, 38 secured to member 27. A rod 42 journalled in brackets which extend upwardly at 39 and are secured to element 27, has a sector plate 47 welded thereto, the end of the rod being movable within an arcuate slot 49 in the member 31. The sector plate 47 is connected by a central pivot 51 to angle element 31 so that rotation of rods 41, 42 causes vertical movement of the seat, the plate 47 having ratchet teeth 52 engaged by a pawls 67, 69 on a plate 57 secured on a shaft 55 to which is secured an operating handle 64 and latching notches 53 engaged by detents 89, 96. A link 86 connects detent 89 to plate 57, the link having a slot 88 engaging a pivot 87 on the detent. Counterclockwise rotation of shaft 55 moves detent 96 to unlatched position and clockwise rotation moves detent 89 to unlatched position by means of link 86, the action being such that when the operating handle 64 is raised and lowered above its neutral position the seat is raised and when the handle is lowered and raised below its neutral position the seat is lowered. The base support 23 has its upper portion flared out at 126, Fig. 9, and provided with notches 127 which are engaged by a locking lever 123 connected to a similar lever on the other track by a wire 138 and operated by means of a rod 128 connected to a cranked rod 139 and operating handle 143 to provide locking of the fore and aft adjustment.
