Abstract

[Also in Group XXXVII] In a change-speed gear combined with a power-actuated voluntarily controlled centrifugal friction clutch, the clutch control is provided on the gear selector lever and the direction of the force to actuate the clutch control is other than that to operate the selector lever. In a power transmission including an electro-pneumatic mechanism for declutching and permitting clutch re-engagement supplementary to automatic centrifugal clutch action, and in which there is an interconnection with the engine throttle as described in Specification 484,398, the gear selector is controlled manually by a lever 10 having a knob 11. The top of the knob contains an electric switch button 12 controlling the clutch engagement, the button 12 being so positioned that gears may be selected by transverse movements of the lever when the clutch is disengaged centrifugally at low speeds, without manual disengagement of the clutch, for manoeuvring. For normal gear changing, when the vehicle is moving the knob is gripped to depress the button and thus disengage the clutch. In a modification, the clutch control may be of the type described in Specification 516,730 and an isolating switch be incorporated in the circuit.
