Abstract

Dithiocarbamic acid esters of the general formula <FORM:0805500/IV (b)/1> in which R1 and R2 are alkyl, cyanoalkyl or alkenyl groups, R3 is an alkyl, carbamylalkyl, formylalkyl, carboalkoxy, aralkyl, halogenated aralkyl or an alkenyl group, the total number of carbon atoms in R1, R2 and R3 being at least six when all are alkyl groups, at least nine when at least one of R1, R2 and R3 is an alkenyl group and at least twelve when R3 is an aralkyl or halogenated aralkyl group, are described and claimed. In an example, allyl-N - allyl - N - isopropyl dithiocarbamate is prepared by reacting allyl chloride with sodium isopropyl allyl dithiocarbamate. Other specified esters are allyl N,N-diisopropyl, -diallyl, -dibutyl and -diethyl dithiocarbamate, allyl N - (b - cyanoethyl) - N - isopropyl dithiocarbamate, propyl, isopropyl, ethyl, methyl, and trichlorobenzyl N,N-diisopropyl dithiocarbamate, benzyl, formylmethyl, carbamoylmethyl and carbobutoxy N,N-dimethyl dithiocarbamate, methyl and ethyl N,N-diethyl dithiocarbamate, and carbamoylethyl N,N-diallyl dithiocarbamate.ALSO:A herbicidal composition comprises a dithiocarbamic acid ester having the general formula <FORM:0805500/VI/1> in which R1 and R2 are alkyl, cyanoalkyl or alkenyl groups, R3 is an alkyl, carbamylakyl, formylalkyl, carboalkoxy, aralkyl, halogenated aralkyl or an alkenyl group, the total number of carbon atoms in R1, R2 and R3 being at least six when all are alkyl groups or one is an alkenyl group, dispersed in water or admixed with a finely-divided solid carrier. Specified esters are allyl N,N-diethyl dithiocarbamate, allyl N,N - di - isopropyl dithiocarbamate, allyl N,N-diallyl dithiocarbamate, propyl N,N-di-isopropyl dithiocarbamate or butyl N,N-di-isopropyl dithiocarbamate, trichlorobenzyl N,N-di-isopropyl dithiocarbamate.
