Abstract

805,186. Welding by pressure. ETNA MACHINE CO. March 4, 1957 [March 19, 1956], No. 7101/57. Class 83 (4). In a rotary resistance welder having a transformer 14 with a pair of axially spaced insulated terminal ring members 12, 13, segmental current carrying rings 22, 23 abut both the rings 12, 13 and a pair of parallel axiallyspaced wheel electrodes 10, 11 and cam devices 32, 33 actuated by bolts 34 force the segmental rings into contact with the electrodes and terminal rings. A member 15 and shaft 17 extend from opposite sides of the transformer are are supported in bearings 16, 18 respectively. The electrodes 10, 11 engaging the longitudinal seam of a tube T are mounted on the terminal rings with interposed insulating or conducting rings 19, 20 and a T-shaped insulating member 21 is arranged between the electrodes. Threesegment copper rings 22, 23 are mounted on and receive current from the terminal rings and have tapered faces 25, 26 on which are arranged solid steel rings 32, 33 with similar faces. Bolts 34 pass through holes in the rings and electrodes being insulated from the rings 23, 33 and electrode 11, and nuts 35, 36 thereon clamp the assembly of rings 22, 32 and elec trode 10 and nuts 39 thereon clamp the rings 23, 33 and electrode 11.
