Abstract

805,099. Washing granular materials. TROMP, K. F. July 13, 1957, No. 22266/57. Class 82(2) Magnetically susceptible materials are recovered 'from the rinsing waters of a heavy medium separation plant by thickening the rinsing water, delivering the thickened material to a magnetic separator and discharging part only of the tailings from the separator as effluent, the remaining part being returned to the thickener. Material rinsed off the screens of the heavy liquid separator 1 is passed via lines 11a to a vessel 11 and then pumped to a thickener 12. The supernatural liquid is used (lines 9) for rinsing purposes. The thickened suspension is pumped to a magnetic separator 15 and magnetic material is returned to the circuit by line 23. The tailings of the separator are divided by weir 18 acting in conjunction with a restriction valve 19, part of the flow being rejected at 21, the remainder returning to the thickener at 22. If desired a screen 16 is used to remove all the large material from the return flow circuit. Valve 19 can be varied in accordance with the density discharged therefrom e.g. by the devices disclosed in Specification 677,178.
