804,893. Glass. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. Oct. 3, 1956 [Oct. 4, 1955], No. 30114/56. Class 56. Glass, particularly for the major segment of a multifocal lens, has the following composition in weight per cent. :- the sum of K 2 O + TiO 2 + Al 2 O 3 being 3-16, and preferably has a softening point below 1250‹F., a refractive index between 1À520 and 1À540, a reciprocal dispersion of 48 to 55 and a coefficient of expansion of approximately 7À0 to 10À0 x 10<SP>-6</SP> per 0‹C. between 25‹C. and 300‹C. Small amounts of fining agents, such as arsenic, or antimony pentoxide up to 2 per cent. by weight, melting aids or colorants, and up to 1 per cent. by weight of fluorine to lower the softening point may be added.
