803,981. Potato planting machines. TROSTER, H. [trading as TROSTER, A. J. [Firm of]]. June 15, 1956 [July 18, 1955], No. 18672/56. Class 6(1). A potato planting machine comprises a rotary feed wheel or an endless chain 1 provided with cups 2 for feeding potatoes to a feed tube 6 and a feeler roller 9 which engages in a slot 15 in an empty cup causing a projection 10 on a linkage 13 to engage a cam stop 12a on a cam plate 12 which moves the linkage 13 causing a pawl 16 mounted on a lever 14 to engage a ratchet wheel 18 and rotate a reserve container 20 to cause a potato to fall into the tube 6. The reserve container 20 is filled by hand and a pawl 25 is provided which engages in the gaps 29 to ensure that only a single potato is ejected for each movement of the ratchet wheel. The linkage is returned to its original position by a spring 23 and a member 13c of the linkage abuts against a stop 24. The presence of a potato in a cup causes the roller 9 to rise so that the projection 10 is not engaged by the stop 12a. The machine is provided with a ploughshare and a pair of cover discs.
