803,176. Air blade coating apparatus. ILFORD, Ltd. April 23, 1957 [June 15, 1956], No. 18618/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. An air blade coating apparatus comprises, within the air blade, a labyrinthine structure having an extremely large number of interconnected channels between the air supply and the air jet. The labyrinth may be formed by loosely packed fibrous material which may be of continuous nylon filaments. The nozzle of the air blade may be adjustable and air may be supplied to the air blade from one or a number of inlet pipes. The apparatus is used in processes where an excess of coating material is supplied to a moving sheet material and the excess removed, e.g. in coating film bases with gelatino photographic emulsions.
