803,128. Aircraft instruments. CANADIAN PATENTS & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Aug. 27, 1956, No. 26198/56. Class 4. [Also in Group XIX] A navigational instrument comprises a framesupported azimuth dial 101, a pair of thin transparent strips 105, 106 constrained to move in accordance with the North-South and East-West components of motion of a craft to indicate a reference position at the intersection of lines inscribed along their lengths, a heading- indicating disc 110 with lines inscribed along a diameter to indicate craft-heading direction against the aximuth dial 101 and means for driving the disc 110 whereby the relation between the heading direction and the direction along which the reference position lies relative to the centre may be observed. A transparent graticule 107 fixed to the azimuth dial 101 has radial and concentric graduations and a rotatable dial 103 has diametrically opposed index marks for wind direction and vector direction respectively, joined by a line 104 which may be a groove in a transparent disc or a stretched wire. Similar information may be displayed optically or by an electron beam on a luminescent screen.
