Abstract
802,606. Packaging. ST. REGIS PAPER CO. Dec. 17, 1956 [Dec. 29, 1955], No. 38454/56. Addition to 773,979. Class 94(1). The final step of the method described and claimed in the parent Specification is effected by vibrating the filled bale to cause the girth of the group of bags within the bale to increase so that the bags tightly fill the bale. Groups of bags are conveyed to a platform 100 as described in the parent Specification and each group is urged by a ram (not shown) against a stop plate 101 so that the group is compressed in a direction corresponding to the maximum dimension of its transverse cross-section. A second ram (not shown) then descends to flatten the top of the group and the compressed group is moved by a ram 105 through a funnel 102 which supports a bale 106. The funnel is similar to that described in the parent Specification and comprises a pair of relatively movable duck bills which hold open the mouth of the bag. As the ram 105 completes its stroke the filled bale is released by the funnel so that it moves down a rollerway 108 and falls base downwards on to a settler conveyer unit 109 comprising a resiliently-mounted plate 110, reciprocated in an upwardly-inclined direction by a motor-driven eccentric, and two side plates 111 and 112. The unit 109 may be similar to that described in Specification 787,088. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the bales fall from the rollerway 108 on to an endless conveyer which passes over a plate similar to the plate 110.
