Abstract
<PICT:0802281/III/1> In the apparatus described in Specification 756,662 for detecting the presence of carbon monoxide in gases and comprising a pair of thermistors one of which is surrounded by an oxidizing material whereby the temperature rises when carbon monoxide is present, the gases under test are first passed through a filter to remove tarry and solid particles, the filter comprising a series of media of graced porosity. In a suitable form, the filter consists of an outer cylinder of aluminium 10, within which is mounted a foraminous cylinder 15 containing a pipe 16 provided with flanges 216, 163, thus forming chambers to contain filter media. The gas to be tested enters at an opening 11 and passes through a roll of metal gauze A, coarse glass wool B, bonded fine glass fibre C and C1, superfine glass fibre D and finally cotton/asbestos fibre E. The gas free from particles then passes through tube 16 and exit to the detecting apparatus.
