Abstract

801,782. Sharpening machine cutters. BURGESS, D. E. Aug. 21, 1956 [June 16, 1955; Oct. 31, 1955], Nos. 17353/55 and 31040/55. Addition to 712,133. Class 60. A hand grinding, sharpening or honing device comprises a motor driven abrasive wheel, a frame for resting on a rotary cutter block of a planning or like machine, and means mounted on the frame and adapted to be placed with its edge adjacent the cutting edge of the cutter blade being ground in the cutter block and in contact with the cutter blade for checking the rotation of the frame around the cutter block in one direction of rotation in relation to the axis of the cutter block and so holding the wheel in sharpening relation to the cutter blade; the chucking means is made adjustable in relation to the frame in the direction of the axis of rotation of the wheel. The grinding wheel H is carried by a part R to which the motor M is secured by screws F passing through elongated slots, so that the motor can be moved to tighten the driving belt. The parts Q P carrying rails A, B are adjustable relatively to each other and to the part R after slackening screws C which engage one or other of two sets of holes G in the part R. The rail B comprises a hinged member having two spaced rails, so as to bridge holes or projections of the cutter block. The tongue D is adjustable vertically and horizontally on part Q its end may comprise a rotatable roller or revolving ball.
