[Also in Group XL (c)] In a radar system (see Group XL (c)) a voltage V1, Fig. 9 (not shown), inversely proportional to the angular position # of a shaft is produced by an inverse function generator 121 of the type disclosed in Specification 720,126. As shown, the slider 131 of a linear potentiometer 113 is ganged to the shaft and is connected to the control grid of a pentode 132 whose anode is D.C. coupled through cathode followers 137, 140 to one end 129 of the potentiometer 113, the other end 130 being earthed, such that the voltage between earth and the slider 131 is automatically maintained at a substantially constant value for all positions of the slider 131, the voltage output from the cathode follower 140 being then equal to V1.
