Abstract

A pill or tablet comprises an inner medicament layer or core, which may have an euteric coating, an outer mouth soluble and absorbable medicament layer, and material in the pill which provides a signal to the tongue when the outer medicament layer has been dissolved in the mouth. The signal material may constitute a separate layer between medicament layers or may be incorporated in the outer medicament layer, and may function as a result of its taste or its consistency being different from that of the adjacent layer. Specified signal materials are sodium chloride, quinine, liquorice, citric acid, mint, orange and lemon flavours. Specified core medicaments are theophylline, benzylephedrin, and pentaerithrytol tetranitrate, and outer medicaments specified are N-isopropyl arterenal and nitroglycerine.
