800,781. Cathode-ray tube circuits; sawtooth generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. May 22, 1956 [Aug. 17, 1955], No. 23693/55. Classes 40 (6) and 40(7). Relates to a magslip resolver circuit for resolving an input timebase into sine and cosine components for application to the X and Y deflection members of a radar P.P.I. cathoderay tube display in which the input waveform is applied to the input coil 3 of the resolver through an amplifier 12, a feedback voltage produced by a winding 4 tightly coupled to the input winding 3 being applied to the input of amplifier 12 to linearize the waveform. According to the present invention the linearity is further improved by generating a further feedback voltage proportional to the difference between first and second voltages proportional respectively to the rate of change of the magnetising force in the resolver and the rate of change of the flux density in the resolver. The invention is described as applied to an arrangement in which the input coil is a stator coil, the sine and cosine outputs being derived from crossed rotor coils 1 and 2. As shown, the first voltage is produced by connecting a resistor 13 in series with the input coil 3 and applying the voltage across said resistor to the grid of a valve 15 through a differentiating circuit comprising capacitor 14 and the input impedance of valve 15. The second voltage is applied to the grid of a valve 16 and is derived from an adjustable tapping on a resistor 17<1> connected across the feedback coil 4. Valves 15 and 16 are connected as a differential amplifier and the difference output from the anode of valve 15 is applied through a cathode follower 17 and adjustable resistor 18 to the grid of the amplifier 12; a further output from the cathode follower 17 is applied as negative feedback to the input of valve 15. The linearity of the timebase waveform can be controlled by adjustment of resistor 18 and the tapping on resistor 17<1>. Any undesired quadrature field in the resolver is cancelled by a correction circuit comprising a high-gain amplifier 9 feeding a main quadrature stator winding 5 and fed from a feedback quadrature stator winding 6. This circuit operates in a similar manner to amplifier 12 but differs therefrom in that its input terminal is earthed.
