Abstract

800,743. Ensuring uni-directional rotation. METAMEC, Ltd. Nov. 14, 1956 [Dec. 16, 1955], No. 36186/55. Class 80 (4). In a uni-directional starting device for synchronous electric motors an arcuate limb 5c of a resilient arm 5 pivoted at 6 frictionally engages a groove in an enlarged portion 3 of the rotor spindle so that if the rotor 2 starts in the undesired direction (i.e. anticlockwise) the limb 5c is frictionally swung into the path of a pin 7, which may also be of resilient material, on the rotor. The resulting impact causes reversal of the motor and the arm 5 is then frictionally moved to and held in the inoperative position shown in which it rests against a stop 8. The limb 5c is connected to the arm 5 by an intermediate axially-directed limb so that the pin 7 does not engage the arm 5. In a modification the enlarged portion 3 is omitted and the limb 5c bears directly on to rotor spindle.
