Abstract

800,305. Television. RAYTHEON MANUFACTURING CO. April 1, 1955 [April 8, 1954], No. 9653/55. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group XL (c)] Television programmes are relayed from a location remote from a broadcasting station by portable transmitting equipment beaming, in the direction of the station, a single high-frequency carrier frequency modulated by video signals combined with a frequency-modulated sound subcarrier. Video output (at 46) from a camera and a frequency-modulated sound subcarrier with mean frequency retroactively stabilized are produced from a portable container and applied through a cable 26 to another portable container located adjacent a highly situated parabolic radiating antenna 109. The second unit may contain a transmitting klystron 106 mounted on a waveguide 107 having connected to it a wavemeter cavity resonator 128 and a crystal detector 124. The arrangement is such that coincidence of the unmodulated frequency of the klystron with the resonance peak X of the resonator 128 and of its frequency sweep within one flank X-Y of the resonance curve are continuously checked by a monitor 121 responsive to the crystal output. The klystron frequency is also stabilized by the crystal 124. The connecting cable 26 between the two units may also be used for intercommunication between their positions.
