Abstract

An applicator for applying "etch" solution to lithographic printing plates comprises a highly resilient backing member 21 and a facing 22A thereon of tricot knitted fabric selected from the group consisting of cellulose acetate rayon, "Dacron" (Registered Trade Mark), (polyethylene terephthalate), and nylon 66 (polyhexamethylene adipamide). The fabric is arranged on the backing member, which may be of foam or sponge rubber, with the "stitch" side facing outwardly. The backing member 21 is frictionally held in a casing 23 which is provided with screws 26 and pins 25. The fabric 22A is wrapped around the backing member 21 <PICT:0798388/III/1> and casing 23, the edges of the fabric being provided with holes which fit over the pins 25. The fabric is secured in place by the base of a handle 39 for the applicator which fits against the casing 23 and fabric 22A and through which the screws 26 project. The base is secured by nuts which are threaded on the screws 26.
