Class 17(1) An inseam trimming machine has work feeding means, a rotary cutter 32 with a plurality of cutting blades 110 each having two cutting edges, a shearing edge to co-operate with one cutting edge and another shearing edge to co-operate with the other shearing edge, the arrangement being such that surplus material is cut off in small pieces. The first cutting edge lies parallel with the length of the inseam and co-operates with a rotary shear member 34, and the second cutting edge is substantially perpendicular to the first edge and co-operates with a fixed shear member 36. The shoe is located heightwise and laterally by engagement of rotor 22 in the inside channel 24 of the insole 12, and with the insole ribs 10, and is supported by a presser roll 28 engaged 'between the welt 20 and upper 16. Roll 28 is adjustable heightwise by means of an abutment screw 41 which determines the position of lever 35 and hence of lever 31 which carries the roll. Spring 43 normally engages the roll with the work, but on depression of the treadle a collar on the rod thereof swings lever 35 to lower the roll. Rotary shear member 34 is of tubular form with a flared upper end terminating in a frusto conical portion having an inner shearing edge 38, and outer teeth 40 to engage the welt and co-operate with rotor 22 to feed the work. To provide access to the cutter, rotor 22 with 80, 82, 88, may be swung forwardly and upwardly on arm 90, which may be held in any one of three positions by a pin 102 on arm 168 engaging in one of three holes 104 in a flange extending from the arm. The speed of cutter 32 is regulated in accordance with the number of blades it carries. Cutter 32 is adjustable horizontally and heightwise relatively to shear member 34 and shear block 36. Fan 160 acts via duct 162 and funnel 164 to remove the small separated chips. Specification 112,808 [Class 17 (i)] is referred to.
