Abstract

Graft copolymers are made by forming a homogeneous dispersion of two or more vinyl monomers of which one or part of which are very soluble in water, adding water to the mixture in a concentration, which in relation to the very soluble monomer is, on a molar basis, equal to or less than one mol. and which is still below the limit when separation of the substances present in the mixture occurs, and polymerizing the mixture preferably in the presence of a catalyst such as azoisobutyric acid dinitrile, and dyes, fillers, or plasticizers. Suitable polymerizable mixes are N-vinylpyrrollidone and vinyl chloride, N-vinylpyrrolidone and styrene, and styrene and acrylic acid. Urea may also be added to these mixes.
