Abstract
797,521. Turbine blades. PARSONS & CO., Ltd., C. A. Dec. 15, 1955 [Nov. 8, 1954], No. 32230/54. Class 110 (3). In a ring of turbine blades d of the kind formed with integral shrouds c, the shrouds are secured together by means of a plurality of sliding members a which engage the blade shrouds, the length of the members being such that when they are all in position, their total circumferential length is less than the total circumference by slightly more than one blade pitch. The sliding members and shrouds together form a wedge-shaped joint. In the embodiment shown, the shroud members are each formed with a wedge-shaped recess band the sliding members are of corresponding wedge shape, the sliding members each having a length equal to approximately four blade pitches. Alternatively, the blade shrouds may be formed with edge-shaped projections which are engaged by sliding members having correspondingly-shaped recesses. The sliding members are dimensioned so that the final blade of the row may be inserted, the members then being moved circumferentially so that the gap of slightly more than one blade pitch is spread uniformly around the circumference. The sliding members are then secured in position by light caulking or rolling so that they expand and fill the recesses.
