Abstract
<PICT:0797045/III/1> In a process for the distillation of liquids, the overhead vapour is divided into two streams, one of which is condensed, the condensate is pumped to a heater where it is vaporized under pressure, and the vapour so formed is mixed with the other overhead vapour stream, preferably in a venturi-type injector, to produce a vapour-blend of elevated temperature and pressure which is passed in heat-exchange with a stream of liquid or vapour to be fed to the still. The process may be used in solvent refining, solvent dewaxing and solvent deasphalting, and also in the distillation of mineral oils, alcohols and essential oils. Feedstock is introduced through line 1 into colum 2 from which an overhead fraction is withdrawn by line 3. The overhead vapour is divided into two streams, and one steram is condensed in heat-exchanger 13. The condensate flows into tank 14 from which it is pumped to heater 16, where it is vaporized under the increased pressure. The high-pressure vapours are passed to injector 17, and simultaneously draw into it the second stream of overhead vapour via line 18. The blended vapours are passed through line 19 to heat-exchanger 11 where they condense, and effect the vaporization of liquid withdrawn from the base of the column into heat-exchanger 11 via line 8. The reboiled fraction is returned to the column via line 9, the residual liquid being withdrawn as bottoms product via line 10. The temperature of the condensate, withdrawn from heat-exchanger 11, is adjusted to the required reflux temperature in heat-exchanger 4; and part of the liquid is then introduced into the head of the column via line 6, while the remainder is withdrawn as product through line 7.
