Abstract
The invention comprises a vinyl trisiloxane having the formula: <FORM:0796576/IV (a)/1> It may be prepared by (1) reacting ethylvinyldichlorosilane with potassium trimethyl silanolate in an organic solvent; or (2) cohydrolysing ethylvinyldichlorosilane with trimethylchlorosilane; or (3) reacting bis-(trimethylsiloxy) ethyl silane with acetylene. Higher polymers.-The above compound may be polymerized through its vinyl group to form linear, soluble polymers, and may be copolymerized with other monomers such as styrene or vinyl chloride. The compound may also be equilibrated with dimethyl siloxanes to yield vinyl siloxanes for silicone elastomers; and copolymers of the compound may be similarly equilibrated to produce block copolymers. In an example, the trisiloxane is copolymerized with vinyl chloride in aqueous emulsion containing soap and potassium persulphate, and the copolymer is precipitated with methanol and extracted with a mixture of ethanol, toluene and water. Transparent, flexible films are pressed from the copolymer.
