Class 65(1) [Also in Group XXX] In an automatic control system for one or more lift cars serving a plurality of landings, of he kind having means for controlling the opening and closing of the car and landing doors when a car is at a landing the number of car stops made in a predetermined time period are summated periodically and the non-interference time, during which the car and landing doors remain open at each stop, is varied in dependence upon the number of stops made in that period in such a manner that the non-interference time is reduced with an increase in the number of stops made in the predetermined period. A light beam transmitted across the car entrance and falling on a photo-cell detects passengers entering or leaving the car and extends the non-interference time. When a passenger enters the car and presses a floor button the doors automatically close if no passengers are entering or leaving the car thus curtailing the non-interference time
