764,451. Lifts. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Jan. 24, 1955 [Jan. 28, 1954], No. 2038/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 78 (3). A control system for a lift car which serves a pair of terminal landings and a plurality of intermediate landings comprises means for stopping the car at any preselected landing and opening the doors, start initiating means responsive after the expiration of a predetermined time following the stopping of a car for closing the doors and re-starting the car, and means, responsive to movement of a load or passenger into or out of the car, for expediting operation of the start initiating means before the predetermined time has elapsed. Movement of loads or passengers into or out of the car temporarily interrupts a signal of radiant energy, e.g. infra-red, ultra-violet or visible light or supersonic energy, transmitted across the closing path of the doors. In the event of a load or passenger interrupting the signal during closing movement of the doors they are re-opened. The Specification includes a detailed description of the operation of the system.
