Abstract
795,327. Making springs; stamping. INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING GENERAL RESEARCH & LICENSING CO. May 1, 1956 [May 12, 1955], No. 13370/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXII] The invention relates to a process for making an annular spring (see Group XXXII), consisting of a number of sectors 5 defining a frusto-conical surface, and joined to each other by respective trough-like or folded portions 3. The folded portions 3 extend over only part of the corresponding radius of the spring, the remainder of the radius being slotted as shown at 7. The springs are made by first taking a strip of material and forming it with a series of folds, the axes of which are disposed transversely to the longitudinal axis of the strip, and then uniting by welding the ends of the strip to form a corrugated ring, the corrugations of which are disposed parallel to the axis of the ring. The number of corrugations of the ring corresponds to the number of folds in the finished spring. This tubular ring is then converted into the form of a ring of truncated conical shape by a stamping operation acting upon the lower edge of the ring. A final stamping operation is then carried out in dies 14, 15 (Fig. 14). The slots 7 are then formed by a machining operation.
