Abstract

795,035. Measuring temperature coefficients. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Feb. 7, 1956 [Feb. 7, 1955], No. 3576/55 Class 97(3) [Also in Groups XXXVI and XXXVIII] In apparatus for determining the coefficient of thermal expansion of glass a specimen 7 is located in a silica tube 3 above a silica stop 9 and below a silica rod 10 and changes in length are indicated on dial gauge 11. Heat is supplied by current in a coil 2 surrounding an outer silica tube 1. A plurality of wires 4 pass through side tubes 6 to form welded thermos-coupled junctions 5 with a elongated tubular member 3 which additionally assists in equalizing the temperature distribution. Circuits may be completed in sequence through a meter 20 by a switch 18; alternatively separate meters may be provided in the separate circuits.
