795,010. Grinding and polishing. GRAHAM, W. Aug. 22, 1956 [Oct. 22, 1955], No. 30256/55. Class 60. A holder a for use in sharpening wood chisels h and like tools has a flat base adapted to be reciprocated over a stone q, an inclined toollocating surface together with means for clamping the tool against the surface, and a support k at one end of the flat base for engaging the surface of the stone. The holder a which is of wedge shape, has two side plates b secured thereon by screws c, d and an eccentric g for clamping the tool in position is pivotally mounted between the side plates ; the clamping screw d passing through a transverse hole in the block is engageable either with an upper or lower hole f in the plates for setting the eccentric in correct position according to the thickness of the tool. The slotted support k fitted with rollers l is screwed to the rear end of the block and is adjustable for varying the cutting angle of the tool. In a modification, the side plates and eccentric are dispersed with, and the block provided with a transverse metal stirrup having a screw for clamping the tool against the locating surface ; alternatively, the tool may be clamped in an inclined slot provided in a rectangular wood or plastic block. One or more transverse grooves may be provided in the bottom surface of the block for spreading oil and collecting the ground-off particles.
