Abstract

794,920. Winding yarns. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. June 22, 1956 [June 24, 1955], No. 18309/55. Class 120(2) In an uptwisting machine a body having a moment of inertia at least equal to that of the empty package support and the supporting and securing means rotating therewith is connected to and rotated with the package being wound so that if the package bounces off its driving drum, its speed is maintained and it falls back on the driving drum before it has slowed down. Other damping means, e.g. mechanical or hydraulic, may be employed in conjunction with the invention to reduce the effects of bounce. A flywheel 28 having a heavy cast-iron rim 31 and a thin web 29 is secured to a mandrel 6 on which the package supporting tube 13 is mounted The machine preferably comprises at least two tiers of spindles 4 for supply packages 5 driven by a belt 7 and at least two tiers of winding units having driving drums 17 rotated by a common shaft 18, traverse guides 19 being reciprocated by a stud on a block 21 engaging a groove 24 of a cam 25 rotated by a shaft 26 common to all the units of the tier. The block 21 slides on two parallel rods 22 by means of two pairs of grooved rollers.
