Abstract
794,472. Measuring visibility. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. Aug. 8, 1956 [Oct. 17, 1955], No. 24287/56. Class 40 (3). Visibility in an oblique direction near to an aircraft runway is determined by producing at E a very brief light signal and detecting the rearwardly diffused light by a photo-electric cell P, amplifier A and cathode-ray oscilloscope O. The light signal is produced by a spark generator G and a synchronized Kerr cell K or other shutter and is projected by a curved mirror M1. The photo-electric cell P is placed at the focus of a mirror M2 and its signals are applied to the vertical deflection means of the oscilloscope, the horizontal sweep of which is controlled from the spark generator G through a synchronizer S.
