Abstract
793,720. Measuring pressure ratios; Mach number. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Aug. 30, 1955 [Sept. 7, 1954], No. 24883/55. Class 40 (1). Apparatus for measuring the ratio between two pressures comprises a pair of levers 25, 26 pivoted at opposite ends and acted on by a pair of manometric devices, e.g. bellows 35, 36. These levers act against each other with adjustable mechanical advantage with the aid of a movable yoke 29 engaging tracks 32, 34 on the levers via rollers 47 in contact with each other and movable in guides in the yoke member. As shown, the manometric device 35 between the levers is partially evacuated and the other manometric device which acts between the lower lever 26 and the frame is connected to a pitot-head. Deflections of the lower lever are cornmtuiicated to an E-type pick-off 55 controlling a motor 50 which via a screw and nut mechanism drives the yoke 29 to a position in which the lower lever is restored to its original position. The position of the yoke via pin 61, rocker 63 and a pin (not shown) on the shaft 66 of a quadrant 67 controls that of a pointer 24 showing Mach number. To assist in calibration, the upper lever is acted on by an adjustable spring 80. Other forms of electrical transducer e.g. potentiometric may be used.
