Abstract

<PICT:0793283/IV (b)/1> <PICT:0793283/IV (b)/2> <PICT:0793283/IV (b)/3> <PICT:0793283/IV (b)/4> <PICT:0793283/IV (b)/5> <PICT:0793283/IV (b)/6> <PICT:0793283/IV (b)/7> Apparatus for the liquid treatment of fabric in continuous web form is of the type in which the web T, Fig. 1, passes through a tank 1 in folds suspended on sticks moving through the tank, the web and treating liquid being supplied to the vat from a funnel-shaped receptacle 4, Fig. 4, and is characterized in that the sides of the funnel 8, 9 may be moved towards or away from the longitudinal centre line of the receptacle 4 to vary the cross-sectional area of the outlet opening. The receptacle 4 has liquid inlet openings 10, 12, and 13 and perforated grids 16, 17, the liquid rising up through the spaces 14, 15 to enter the hopper defined by the walls 5, 6 and then flowing with the web through the outlet opening in the bottom of the funnel 7 into the tank 1. The size of the outlet may be varied by means of a hand wheel 25a operating a screw-and-nut mechanism, Figs. 4 and 14, which lifts or lowers a forked part 20 having a plate sliding against the flexible metal side 9 to move the side inwardly or outwardly with respect to the centre line X-X of the receptacle 4, Fig. 9. The movement of the fork 20 may also vary the cross-section of the outlet over the length of the receptacle 4, as shown in Fig. 14. In a modification (Fig. 8, not shown), the fork 19 on the flexible side 8 may also be provided with an adjusting hand wheel. In order to centralize the fabric width in the tank 1 the tank is provided with internal movable walls 30, 31, Fig. 2, pivoted at 34, 35 to the sides of the tank, which walls may be moved towards or away from each other by means of a hand wheel and screw adjustment 36, 37, 40 provided with a simple axially moving pointer indicating the position of the walls on a scale. In a modification (Fig. 20, not shown) a hand wheel and screw is provided at both ends of the walls. The fabric T leaving the vat passes through and around a set of subdivided rollers 56, 57, 58, Figs. 21, 22, the rollers being mounted in a beam 59 pivoted centrally to the machine frame at a point 60. If the fabric is displaced from the middle lines of the beam 59 then restoring forces are set up which return it to the middle. Specification 688,007 is referred to.
